Langify is a Shopify app that lets you translate pages on your Shopify store into multiple languages. This guide will take you through the Langify installation process and explain how to add languages to your Shopify store.
1. Install Langify
Log into your Shopify admin and click on Apps from the navigation menu. then click Visit the Shopify App Store.
Go to the Search bar in the app store and type in 'Langify'.
Now click on Add app.
You should be re-directed to your Shopify admin. Now click Install app.
Click Start free trial.
2: Add a new language
Langify should automatically open in another tab. You can click on the Starter Tour to guide you through different areas of the dashboard. Once you've completed the tour, click Add New Language.
In this example, we are translating Global Toy Store from English to German. You can select any language from the drop-down menu, name it and then click on Save Changes.
From the dashboard, you can click on Languages. Here you will see the primary language, English, and German which we have just added. To preview your store in a different language, click the View button.
3. Translate content
Langify will automatically translate some of your content, but you will have to manually add translations to some sections.
As you can see in the picture below, there are a number of sections below the dashboard:
- Theme
- Products
- Collections
- Pages
- Navigation
- Blogs
- Articles
- Notifications
- SMS Notifications
- Images and
- Shop
Each of these sections contains content from your Shopify store that requires translation. When you click on Theme, you will see all the Theme subsections. Now click on Shopify.
The Shopify dropdown shows English content on the left hand side. On the right hand side is where you can enter in your translations, as we have done in the image below.
You can navigate to different sections to ensure all translations are correct. As you can see below, the Theme section is complete and each drop-down has a green check icon beside it. Now you can move onto the Products section.
4: Publish language
Once you are happy with the translated content in each section, you can publish your language from the dashboard. Simply click on Dashboard, then scroll down to languages. Then push the toggle beside the language to the right, as shown below.
5: Add Switcher Configurator
Once your languages are activated, you can add a Switcher to your homepage. The switcher will display a drop-down where users can select a preferred language. Click the ' + ' icon next to Switcher Configurator on the dashboard.
Under the Switcher tab, you can set the alignment, appearance, positioning and type of Switcher. Any changes you make will be previewed as shown below.
If you want Langify to auto-detect the language of your user, simply go the Behavior tab. Here you can activate language detection by checking the box, as shown below. To add custom styling, click on the Custom CSS tab.
Once you're happy with your changes and the appearance of the switcher, simply click on Save Switcher.
Great! Now're done with the Langify side of things, but there are still steps to complete on the ShoppingFeeder side.
Langify will create a new URL for your translated store, for example for German it will be "global-toy-store.myshopify.com/gr". Now, because the German site has its own URL, we will have to add a new store to your ShoppingFeeder account. But don't worry, this is all quite simple.
6: Add new store in ShoppingFeeder
Log into your ShoppingFeeder account and go to My Account > My Stores. Then click on the + button on top right hand corner as shown below.
When prompted, enter your new store details and then click Save. You can enter your regular store URL (without the /gr) and all other details will be the same as your original store.
Now that you've added your new store, you'll need to run the setup wizard for it. You will have done this before, but you can double check our guide to the setup wizard if you are unsure about anything. To run the setup wizard, simply click on the Settings icon.
The only part of setup that is different this time around is selecting the language. Now, since you have activated French language in Langify, that is the language that you must select from the drop down. As shown below, "fr" is the language chosen. Then click Next and complete the setup wizard.
Now that you know the basics, you can add multiple languages to support your customers all over the world!
